Over £15,000 raised through Air Show car park

£15,000 raised for local good causes through the 2016 Rotary Club of Clacton Air Show the official charity car park in conjunction with Tendring District Council.

Figures released today show just what can be done to support the local community on the back of the popular air show event.

Now in its 5th year, the two day parking event is supported with 355 man hours of volunteering by Clacton Rotarians and supporters. Club President Kevin Harkin said “2016 has been the busiest year yet with over 2,600 cars parked over the two days. We had very successful Orange Priority online ticket system available for the first time and the evening fireworks presented some new challenges, the team of Rotarians and volunteers coped really well”

Rotarians start planning the event and meet with Tendring District Council in the spring.  Linking in with local organisers and police, the valiant team of volunteers ensure the safe and secure parking along with a free shuttle bus for disabled visitors.

The fund raising effort is made possible through the fantastic support of Penny Smith who owns the field, costs associated with the fund raising event are kept to a minimum and all proceeds go to the local community.

Previous benefactors from the money raised have included:

CHAPS Men’s Health Charity

Alexia Rose – Help Alexia walk

St Helena Hospice

Clacton Food Bank

Westcliff Theatre

Sea Cadets

Tendring Brass Band

Dot com Children’s Foundation

Salvation Army

The fundraising committee will be reviewing support for more local good causes over the next few months.  A big thank you to all those that have made this possible!
